Let me introduce you to the other dogs that work with me.
First of all there is Holly, she is a smooth coated border collie, she was born on the 8th
of January 1999, she is a good work dog and Sue has tried to trial her in the past, but
she was a right little madam on the trial field. It’s not as if she cannot do it, because I
have seen her, when we are working, she will take every command she is given . I don’t
understand why she behaves that way? Maybe It’s a female thing.
Holly has bred three litters of puppies. The first
litter were not registered and unfortunately they
were born in early March 2001 ( foot & mouth
had only just started ). She reared all 10 of her
puppies, but we had an awful job trying to find
new homes for them.
Her second litter were ISDS registered, she had
nine puppies on 15th May 2002 by Joe McRobert’s
Roy. We kept a black and tan bitch pup called
Queen. The other eight puppies all went to working
homes, and are all doing well for their new owners.
Holly’s third litter were born on 3rd February 2003,
she had ten puppies but she only managed to rear
seven of them. Again Roy was the sire of them, as
the last litter had turned out so well. We sold six of
them, and kept a tri coloured bitch called Cheviot
Floss. ( The Cheviot bit is Sue’s new prefix ).
Next there is Fern, she is a smooth coated border collie, she was born on the 21st of
October 2000, she thinks she is the only dog in the whole wide world that is capable of
doing any work. When she is asked to work with another dog, whether it is with me or
Holly, she thinks every command Sue gives is for her, and goes whizzing off to do the
job that was meant for the other dog. I think she needs to do a lot more work on the
hills, and then she might think twice about stealing other dogs jobs!
Fern has had four litters of puppies, she produced
in her first litter five, all dogs, on the 22nd May 2003.
Joe McRobert’s Roy was also the sire of this litter.
We kept a Tri coloured pup called Chip he was
the only one with a lot of tan in his coat, the others
all went to working homes.
Queen, is a smooth coated tri-coloured border collie,
she was born on the 15th of May 2003.
She is fully trained, and a very useful work dog. Sue was
going to trial in the 2005 - 2006 nursery season, but when
Cheviot Floss is out of Holly by Roy, she is a
tri-coloured smooth coated border collie she was
born on the 3rd February 2004, She is a younger
sister to Queen. Her training is slow through no fault
of her own, it is a lack of time and some decent
sheep to train with.
Ferns second litter of puppies were born on 9th April 2005. There were eight puppies,
five dogs and three bitches, all of them tri-coloured. Their sire was Joe McRobert’s
Nike, a son of Roy who was the sire of Fern’s first litter.
Sadly Holly had to be put to sleep on the 5th January 2006, just before her 7th birthday
when it was discovered that she had fairly well advanced cancer in her throat. Sue says
that she will leave Holly on this page for now, even though she is no longer with us.
Ferns third litter of puppies were born on the 20th
January 2006. She only produced two puppies, both
tri-coloured dogs. Their sire was R. Dalziel’s Joe
Cheviot Roy is the youngest, he is a rough coated
tri-colour, he is a Fern x Nike and was
born on the 9th April 2005. He is a big strong type
of dog. Roy has been taken to both cattle and
sheep and is proving very keen and fearless
Sue took her to some
local trials it was as if
she had forgotten every
thing that she had been
taught, so for the time
being she is being left to
mature and see if she will
trial next year.
Fern’s fourth litter were born on the 23rd September
2006, she had five, three dogs and two bitches. Their
sire was again Joe McRobert’s Nike, as the other
litter by Nike all turned out so well.
